We took the train to Ascot (you have to be nuts to want to drive in central London, and while Ascot is in the Berkshire countryside, we were staying in South Kensington).
The train station gets so crowded that British Rail put up this bridge to go over the track (in addition to the tunnel at the other end of the platform)

Once at the track, before each day's racing starts there is the Royal Procession, where the Queen, (who owns the track) ride in front of the grandstand with other royals. Sadly when we were there the procession was only on 2 days, because the Queen's coach was needed for the official State Opening of Parliament (the Brits has just finished an election and this was the first meeting of the "new" Parliament)

I'm pretty sure this is the Queen's Carriage
While we were there for the racing, some folks were just there to party.

This leads to some interesting trash:

That's 2 (empty) bottles of champagne, a champagne bucket and a bunch of (plastic) champagne glasses, there aren't a lot of places where you see that sort of trash.
